I know you’ve heard these words before: kngdom business.
My cousin died recently. We were very close and grew up together. It has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever walked through.
I began searching the Scriptures for comforting words—something to help me cope with what I thought was a tragedy. Don’t get me wrong, I read my Bible consistently and believe myself to be a Christian. But grief has a way of making you search even deeper.
During this time, I had been reading a book by Mary C. Neal about heaven. In it, she shares her near-death experience and visits from angels. Three things especially stayed with me.
First, during one of her encounters, and angel told her that we are part of our purpose from the very beginning-that, in some way, we sit down and help write our plan.
Second, she said that children are more susceptible to the spiritual realm because they remember it, and the world hasn’t yet filled their minds with all its distractions.
Third, she wrote that when we grieve, our hearts are open and we become more vulnerable to the enemy. Because of that, we must ask God to guard our hearts.
So, this morning, the song I’m a Living Testimony kept playing repeatedly in my mind. I kept thinking about the words, living testimony. I stress the living part.
For the last few weeks, I’ve been praying and asking God to let me see my cousin in a dream so I would know she’s okay and find peace. But this morning, I woke up with peace instead. For the first time, I realized that I am a living testimony.
God hasn’t stopped loving us. He hasn’t stopped caring. He will continue to fulfill everything He has purposed for me and for my family.
Don’t get me wrong. Am I still sad? Yes. Does it still hurt? Absolutely.
But I also realize that Scripture is overwhelmingly true. Before we were born, God knit us together in our mother’s womb. He created us with plans and a purpose. Plans to prosper us and not to harm us.
For a while now, I’ve been trying to write a book. If you know me, you know I love reading. My favorite genre is romance, so I assumed that’s what I was supposed to write.
But this morning, I felt God gently urging me in a different direction.
Not romance.
Encouragement.
Encouraging people to seek Jesus.
I’m a quiet person. I don’t always have a lot to say out loud, but words seem to flow from me when I write. Maybe that’s part of the plan. Part of my purpose.
To tell others about Jesus through my writing.
Maybe that’s my kingdom business.
